Rio 2016: Home golfer to take historic first tee shot

Open champion Henrik Stenson will tee off alongside Thongchai Jaidee and Rafael Cabrera Bello at Rio 2016, while a Brazilian will hit the first shot of the Games.

Stenson won his first major at Royal Troon last month and is the favourite for the gold meda - the world number five is the highest-ranked player in the field after the high-profile withdrawals of Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth.

The other reigning major champion in the field, Great Britain's Masters winner Danny Willett, will go out with American Matt Kuchar and Li Haotong of China.

Sunshine Tour professional Adilson da Silva will be the host nation's history-maker, slated to tee off first up after being put in the opening group with Graham DeLaet (Canada) and An Byeonghun (South Korea).

Major winners Bubba Watson (United States) and Martin Kaymer (Germany) are drawn together with India's Anirban Lahiri, while  American Rickie Fowler, Briton Justin Rose and Venezuela's Jhonattan Vegas will be another group to watch.
