Giants, Mets claim MLB wins

The San Francisco Giants had an extra-inning win in MLB, while the New York Mets split their Yankees series.

Denard Span blasted a 10th-inning homer as the Giants edged the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2.

The Mets and Yankees split their four-game series as the former claimed a 4-1 win.

The Oakland Athletics needed 10 innings to beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-6 and the Texas Rangers edged the Baltimore Orioles 5-3.

A three-run homer from Brad Miller saw the Tampa Bay Rays past the Kansas City Royals 3-2 and the Cleveland Indians thrashed the Minnesota Twins 9-2.

The Cincinnati Reds shut out the St Louis Cardinals 7-0 and the Chicago White Sox overcame the Detroit Tigers 6-3.

The Boston Red Sox needed 11 innings to get past the Seattle Mariners 3-2.

The Atlanta Braves claimed a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 4-1 and the Los Angeles Dodgers were 4-2 victors against the Colorado Rockies.

Brandon Finnegan limited the Cardinals to two hits over six innings. Finnegan did not issue a walk and struck out four in the outing. He will look for a repeat performance next time up against the same team, this time in St Louis.

Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp made an amazing catch to rob the Angels' Choi Ji-man of what would have been his third home run of the game.

Dodgers rookie Corey Seager hit his 19th home run with a fifth-inning blast against the Rockies, tying the record for most homers from a Dodgers shortstop. Seager, who is now batting with an average of .306, is a favourite to win National League Rookie of the Year.

The battle for Texas resumes as a pair of struggling southpaws take the mound in Houston. Dallas Keuchel (6-11, 4.86 ERA) has posted a 7.91 ERA against the Rangers this season while Texas starter Martin Perez (7-7, 4.22 ERA) has a 5.95 ERA in 11 road starts in 2016.
