Rio Olympics: The surprising fact you may not know about 2016 medals


It seems Rio 2016 medals will be the heaviest in Olympics history.

The medals are the same diameter (8.5cm) as those won by athletes at London 2012, but are 100g heavier - as this graphic shows:

They are much bigger than those offered to athletes 108 years ago when the medals weighed just 21 grams.
