Babos books Florianopolis semi-final berth


Sixth seed Timea Babos came from a set behind to beat Jelena Ostapenko and book a place in the Brasil Tennis Cup semi-finals.

Babos secured her first appearance in the last four since the Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem in April with a 4-6 6-3 6-2 victory on Wednesday, completing her win on the second match point.

She will meet first time semi-finalist Ana Bogdan for a place in the final, the 23-year-old Romanian cruising past Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-3 6-3.

Elsewhere in the draw there was a comfortable 6-2 6-4 win for second seed Irina-Camelia Begu over Nao Hibino, while third seed Monica Puig beat Naomi Osaka 6-3 6-4.
