Steve O'Keefe's international return ended in disappointment as he was forced off with injury during day three of Australia's first Test with Sri Lanka.
The left-arm spinner, having played just one Test previously against Pakistan in 2014, had been recalled for the opening match of Australia's tour to form a two-pronged spin attack with Nathan Lyon.
And O'Keefe performed well in Sri Lanka's first innings in Pallekele, taking 2-32 as the hosts were skittled for 117.
The 31-year-old then scored 23 as the tourists opened up an 86-run advantage, but during Sri Lanka's second innings O'Keefe was struck down with injury.
As he chased a straight drive from Kusal Mendis off Mitchell Starc, O'Keefe appeared to grab his leg, and in the following over he was only able to complete two balls before hobbling off.
Adam Voges had to finish the over, with Sri Lanka going well on 163-4 thanks to a maiden century from Mendis, giving the hosts a small lead.
