The Open Social Round-Up: Stenson hailed on record-breaking Sunday

Henrik Stenson came out on top in a battle for the ages with Phil Mickelson to win The Open at Royal Troon.

We look back on how an absorbing final round, which ended with Stenson 20 under par for the tournament, unfolded on social media.

Stenson led by one heading into the final day, but was entering new territory.

Australia's Greg Chalmers is able to see the funny side after an 85 - featuring a quadruple-bogey eight at the 11th - sees him finish last.

The final pairing soon streaked further clear of the field courtesy of some sparkling play.

With five holes to play, Stenson and Mickelson are tied at 16 under and it remains impossible to pick a winner.

Stenson sneaks ahead with a birdie at 14, his seventh of the day.

And a monster putt at the next hole gives the Swede a two-shot cushion.

Mickelson is unable to regain parity as Stenson completes a stunning final-round 63 to finish with a record score of 20 under and, more importantly, possession of the Claret Jug.

The performance of the final pairing is illustrated by this eye-catching statistic.

Sergio Garcia, whose search for a first major goes on, is among the first to congratulate the new champion.

Stenson and Mickelson are also hailed by Jordan Spieth after shooting the two lowest rounds of the day. Mickelson finished 11 shots clear of JB Holmes in third.
