World number five Simona Halep continued to cruise at the Bucharest Open as she booked her spot in the quarter-finals with a 6-4 6-3 win over qualifier Isabella Shinikova.
Despite the straightforward nature of the result, Halep - winner of the tournament in 2014 - was still broken twice and had to save a further four break points, before eventually getting on top of Shinikova for the win in just over one hour and 10 minutes.
The number one seed will face Danka Kovinic in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Sara Errani also progressed after a tough opening to her match against wildcard Francesca Schiavone.
Errani lost the first set 6-1 before recovering to take the second 6-2, with the Italian progressing past her compatriot when Schiavone retired before the start of the third set having struggled with a shoulder injury throughout the match.
Elsewhere, Kovinic beat Polina Leykina 6-3 6-2 and Anastasija Sevastova defeated Patricia Maria Tig 6-2 6-2.
