England fans have been calling out for something new - and it seems like that something new is going to be Sam Allardyce.
The 61-year-old Sunderland boss is in talks with the Football Association to take over from Roy Hodgson after England's Euro 2016 disaster and is the odds-on favourite with the bookies.
Reaction among England fans has been, at best, mixed.
Strewth! I hope the @England conversation with Sam Allardyce is a smokescreen.

Sam Allardyce, boasting a career win average somewhere around the 35% mark & a football style that'd make Wimbledon blush. SIGN HIM UP NOW.

As much as I like him. Roy Hodgson to Sam Allardyce is a bigger sideways step than in the cha cha slide.

Pretty sure most English fans agree with Sunderland that they're annoyed the FA has approached Allardyce. https://t.co/yO2IGhFBUs

English FA, media, supporters: we need to reform and innovate
English FA: [hires Big Sam]

People who don't think Big Sam is good enough for England forget that he holds two victories over the rest of the world in Soccer Aid.

Gotta feel for the Irish passport office. First Brexit. Now Big Sam.
-- Andrew Allen (@AAllenSport) July 13, 2016
The man once accused of playing "football from the 19th century" by Jose Mourinho has never won a major trophy.
He has achieved reasonable results in difficult circumstances though, notably with Sunderland and Bolton.
And for some people it seems that's enough.
Sam Allardyce is an acquired taste for some - but would take him over Jurgen Klinsmann as England manager every time.
-- Phil McNulty (@philmcnulty) July 13, 2016
No candidate ticks every England box, but at least Big Sam is a strong character and good man manager who gets the right people around him.

If you think Sam Allardyce has no tactical knowledge you're as stupid as you think he is...
-- TomMellor (@MellorFootball) July 13, 2016
Not that long ago he thought he should change his name to Allardici to get a top job. But reckon Allardyce is just what Eng need right now
-- Manish Bhasin (@_manishbhasin) July 13, 2016
He might not be a glamorous choice, but Big Sam would be a good choice for England. Old school character with forward thinking methods.
-- Paul Taylor (@nottmtails) July 13, 2016
Let's be honest though - whether you're for or against Big Sam, the thought of him as England manager is pretty funny.
Can't wait until Sam Allardyce is the #englandmanager and we have a CM pairing of Lee Cattermole & Mark Noble.
-- Reece (@BasslineKlopp) July 13, 2016
With the news of Allardyce talking to the FA, somewhere Kevin Nolan has added England international to his c.v. and Wikipedia account.

Grown men walking around chasing Pokemons and Sam Allardyce about to be named England manager. What a time to be alive.

Sam Allardyce for England manager @FootballAssoc ?? ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
-- Frank Major (@frankomajor) July 13, 2016
"Jay-Jay? It's Sam. Big Sam. Ignore that chewing sound, I'm just having a bap. Yeah, listen: is it too late for you to declare for England?"
-- Joel Golby (@joelgolby) July 13, 2016
Maybe with the England job he's not aiming high enough.
Just heard Big Sam Allardyce has entered the Labour leadership race with a powerpoint presentation that will BLOW YOUR MIND
-- Ben Bailey Smith (@docbrown88) July 13, 2016
Now there's a thought...
