Jerome Boateng's mindless handball was worth it for the amount of funny memes that followed

Jerome Boateng had a moment to forget when his needless handball allowed Italy to equalise late on in their Euro 2016 quarter-final in Bordeaux.

The Germany defender threw his arms up in the air theatrically and when the ball hit him the referee was left with no other choice but to point to the spot.

Twitter felt as though it had no other choice than to ridicule the moment relentlessly in a series of memes that pretty much summed up whatever everyone was thinking - what was Boateng playing at?

Cristiano Ronaldo always seems to find himself involved in these types of things.

They might not quite rival the "Crying Jordan" memes - at least not yet - but there were a couple of movie references to raise a smile too.

At least Boateng scored in the penalty shoot-out - when 3 (THREE) Germans missed - so he might be able to have a chuckle when he switches on his Twitter tonight.
