A flawless Billy Hurley III earned the outright lead at the Quicken Loans National as Ernie Els looms large after the penultimate round.
Hurley did not drop a shot on Saturday, carding a bogey-free third-round 67 for a two-stroke advantage at 15 under at Congressional Country Club.
Tied for the lead alongside Jon Rahm at the halfway mark, Hurley moved clear atop the leaderboard with four birdies as the former dropped to third the standings.
Seeking his first win on the PGA Tour, Hurley could do no wrong from the outset, birdieing his opening hole at the first before picking up shots at the sixth, ninth and 14th.
Four-time major champion and South African veteran Els is second behind Hurley following his stellar six-under-par 65.
Els turned back the clock with the round of the day, highlighted by a 12th-hole eagle.
With three birdies already under his belt - in succession from the sixth hole on the front nine - Els did not need his putter at the par-four 12th, sinking his second shot with a nine-iron from 160 yards.
Rahm - playing as a professional for the first time - ended the day three strokes adrift of Hurley after posting a one-under-par 70.
Bill Haas and Webb Simpson (both 68) are tied for fourth at 10 under, while Harold Varner III (70) and Vijay Singh (71) are two shots further back.
Meanwhile, world number six Rickie Fowler is 11 shots back after bogeying four holes in a two-over-par 73.
