2016 U.S. Open already has social media star: Oakmont's rough

We are still several days away from the start of the 2016 U.S. Open, but already there's a social media star from the golf tournament: the rough at Oakmont Country Club.

Players who have gotten a look at the course are at once awestruck and yet resigned to it with good humor.

Justin Thomas says the rough is ready, with accompanying emoji....

Rough short of 17 green... Yeah, I'd say Oakmont is ready ? @usopengolf

"Where is she?" U.S. Amateur winner turned first-year pro Bryson DeChambeau asks, via Golf.com, referring to a golf ball.

Oh, wait, is that a sliver of white there?

Keegan Bradley promises -- promises!-- that there's one in there, amid all that grass.

Can u find the ball? #ipromisethereisone #oakmont

Even members of the media are involved, as golfer Graeme McDowell tweeted AP golf writer Doug Ferguson's effort to advance the ball from the stuff. Long (really long) story short, to quote Ferguson: "OK, we're done here."
