Wakefield Trinity Wildcats appear all but certain to finish in Super League's top eight after grinding out a 10-2 away victory over Huddersfield Giants.
Wildcats skipper Danny Kirmond scored the only try of the game, in the 68th minute, to send Wakefield up to sixth in the 12-team table and seven points clear of ninth-placed Hull KR, with only five rounds remaining before the bottom four are placed into a separate mini-league with the leading second-tier clubs.
Huddersfield's hopes of making the top eight are surely over, the Giants having won only four of 18 league games this term.
A Liam Finn penalty provided the only points of a dire first half on Sunday and there was little improvement after the interval.
Giants playmaker Danny Brough levelled the scores with a two-pointer of his own, but another goal from Finn edged Wakefield ahead once more before the try line was finally breached.
Kirmond, on his return from a suspension, pounced on a Finn grubber kick to touch down, with the latter adding the extras.
