Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have signed David Fifita after NRL leaders Cronulla Sharks agreed to release the prop.
Fifita will get his first taste of Super League, having put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season with the option of a further year.
The 26-year-old Tonga international, twin brother of Sharks and New South Wales prop Andrew Fifita, made 19 NRL appearances for Cronulla but has now opted to take on a new challenge.
Wakefield head coach Chris Chester said: "It is a massive signing for the club, as a player we monitored closely over the last six to eight weeks, we know he will bring some real punch and aggression to the team which is something we have lacked over recent weeks.
"I am looking forward to working with David over the coming months. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Phil Moss and the Cronulla board for releasing David half way through the season."
