Riders pay tribute to Salom following fatal crash in Barcelona


The MotoGP and motorsport world paid tribute to Luis Salom following the Spaniard's fatal crash in practice for the Spanish Grand Prix. 

Salom, 24, tragically passed away following his high-speed crash at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Friday. 

The SAG Racing rider was transported to hospital but had already suffered a cardiac arrest trackside, with doctors unable to revive him. 

A host of MotoGP riders took to social media to pay their tributes to Salom, while the news touched every corner of the motorsport community. 

Three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo wrote: "Torn apart, very sad and without words...all my love to your family. Rest in peace Luis Salom."

Honda rider and two-time champion Marc Marquez said: "Hard blow for all the World Championship. We will always remember you."

Marquez's Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa wrote: "Devastated by the loss of a great friend! My sincere condolences to the family. We will always remember you."

Salom's former team-mate Maverick Vinales said: "You were one of my toughest rivals, then one of the best team-mates, and later my friend."

Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso wrote: "This is what we hate about the sport that we love. My thoughts are with the family of Luis Salom."

Two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso said: "What terrible news. What madness. Sad. Rest in peace. A big hug to the family and friends of Luis Salom."
