There were no surprises in the first round of the Nurnberger Versicherungscup on Monday as Annika Beck eased through.
Beck, seeded third, made short work of Teliana Pereira, progressing with a 6-0 6-4 win over the Brazilian.
Fellow home hope Anna-Lena Friedsam joined Beck in the second round as the seventh seed beat Johanna Larsson 6-3 6-4, while eighth seed Yulia Putintseva needed two hours and 21 minutes to overcome qualifier Olga Fridman 6-7 (0-7) 6-2 7-5.
Christina McHale also came from a set down to beat Nao Hibino and Mariana Duque-Marino got the better of Carina Witthoft in three sets.
Elsewhere in the draw there were wins for Varvara Lepchenko, Kiki Bertens and Polona Hercog.
