Manchester United fans can smell Champions League football after Man City and Arsenal draw

Manchester United fans are excited about the prospect of a return to the Champions League after a 2-2 draw between rivals Manchester City and Arsenal gave them an advantage in the race for fourth place.

The result in Sunday's 4pm kick-off means that Louis van Gaal's men need two wins from two - against West Ham and Bournemouth - to usurp City from the Champions League places.

And with the tantalising (and lucrative) prospect of Champions League football returning to Old Trafford, fans are voicing their excitement across social media.

If the wins go United's way then the fans are hopeful of luring big name signings to the club with the promise of Champions League football.

As it stands, champions Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur, currently second, are the only two teams to secure Champions League football next season.

If United win both of their games and City win, Arsenal could still be ousted from the Champions League spots if they lose at home to Aston Villa on the final day of the season based on current goal difference.

Stranger things have happened.
