Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel turned himself into Dallas police on Wednesday.
Manziel is due in Dallas County court on Thursday to face a misdemeanour domestic violence assault charge stemming from a January incident with his former girlfriend.
The 23-year-old is accused of kidnapping Colleen Crowley, hitting her and threatening to kill her.
Manziel's Thursday court appearance will mark the first time he will be inside a court room since being indicted by a grand jury on April 24.
The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner was released from jail on Wednesday on a $1,500 bond, but not before he was fingerprinted and had his mug shot taken.
Manziel's attorney has not asked for special treatment for his troubled client, who was released by the Browns on March 11 following a string of off-field incidents. He has also been dropped by two agents because of his continued partying lifestyle.
If convicted on the charge involving his ex-girlfriend, Manziel faces up to a year in prison and a $4,000 fine.
