A side strain has ruled Mitchell Marsh out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League season and left him in doubt for Australia's tour of the Caribbean.
The all-rounder made just three IPL appearances for Rising Pune Supergiants and adds to their injury woes, with Kevin Pietersen (calf) and Faf du Plessis (finger) also seeing their campaigns finish prematurely.
Marsh will undergo further tests in Australia before a timeframe is put on his return, with his fitness for the Tri-Nation Series with West Indies and South Africa in June now a concern.
"Mitchell experienced some pain over his left abdominal area whilst batting at a training session with his team Pune in the IPL a few days ago," Cricket Australia sports science and sports medicine manager Alex Kountouris said.
"He missed his team's next game and the pain has not resolved. He had scans in India that suggest he has a side strain injury and will now return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the tour of the West Indies.
"Once we have a better understanding of the extent of the injury we will be able to advise on his return to play timeframes."
