Liverpool lost their Europa Cup semi-final first leg against Villareal after conceding a goal two minutes into injury time in Spain.
But it was the action - or should that be inaction - of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet which angered fans.
Fans questioned why he was appealing for offside as Denis Suarez crossed to Adrian Lopez rather than just getting on with the job at hand.

Seriously, what was he doing?
Why isn't Mignolet trying to intercept the pass?

Why Mignolet complained about offside instead of defending is beyond me! #LFC

Mignolet should be jumping for the ball there instead of waving his hands up at his teammates.

I'm not too sure why Mignolet thought it would be a good idea to appeal rather than attempt to save it????

The keeper went from hero to zero in the space of a few minutes as the action went from end to end - and back again.
Mignolet came to Liverpool's rescue three minutes from time when Cedric Bakambu seized on Jordon Ibe's mistake with the keeper reaching low to his right to make the save - and win plaudits online.
Don't feel like I have said this much this season... What a save by mignolet #VILvLIV

What a save from mignolet... World class?

But just as quick as they action returned from the other end, Mignolet fell from grace.
All that after Mignolet actually made a world class save for us at a key time, too.

Villareal head to Anfield next week with a 1-0 lead.
