Aston Villa fans fully expected Joleon Lescott and co to be playing like a brand new team against Southampton this weekend.
But it was more of the same from Villa and, in particular, Lescott - who suggested after their relegation was confirmed last week it might be "a weight off the shoulders".
It certainly didn't look that way as Shane Long put Saints into an early lead at Villa Park, with Lescott standing by and watching the striker nod in from close range, then appealing in vain for offside.

Football fans are merciless, aren't they?
You'd think that with all of that weight off of his shoulders, Lescott would have the mobility to mark someone.

You'd think Joleon Lescott would be playing like Bobby Moore today, y'know, with all that weight off his shoulders.

Glad the fans are giving Lescott and co. some rightly deserved stick. #AVFC

And what's worse, that was some among the kinder things people were saying about the former England defender.

Hard to think of two signings who have had a worse impact at the club than Richards & Lescott. Thanks Tim for these guys ?

Ah well Joleon - just grit your teeth and get on with it. The sweet relief of the end of the season will be here soon...
