CSKA, Fener secure opening wins

There were wins for CSKA Moscow and Fenerbahce in the opening games of the 2016 Euroleague play-offs on Tuesday.

CSKA, who finished third last season, defeated Crvena Zvezda 84-74 at home to open up a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Similarly Fener, who were fourth in 2015, made the most of home advantage in the opening match by seeing off defending champions Real Madrid 75-69.

Milos Teodosic and Kyle Hines were the stars for CSKA, netting 23 and 21 points respectively while 14 apiece from Quincy Miller and Stefan Jovic were the best efforts from the visitors.

In Turkey, a strong second quarter saw Fener pull 12 points clear at the half, only for Madrid to close to within one at the end of the third.

But Fener, aided by 17 points each from Bogdan Bogdanovic and Kostas Sloukas, held on for the victory.

The second matches, with CSKA and Fener hosting once more, are scheduled for Thursday.
