Dodgers edge Giants, Kemp stars for Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers edged the San Francisco Giants as Clayton Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner went head-to-head on the mound.

Bumgarner got through six innings and Kershaw eight, but it was Charlie Culberson's double in the 10th that saw the Dodgers win 3-2.

Matt Kemp and the San Diego Padres piled on the runs in a 16-3 thrashing of the Colorado Rockies.

The Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays again, this time 8-4, while the New York Yankees overcame the Detroit Tigers by the same score.

The Cincinnati Reds had fewer hits but managed a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates and a five-run seventh inning saw the Chicago White Sox claim a 7-3 victory against the Cleveland Indians.

Colby Rasmus hit two homers as the Houston Astros beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-4, the Philadelphia Phillies shut out the New York Mets 1-0, the St Louis Cardinals blasted past the Atlanta Braves 12-2 and the Kansas City Royals were 7-0 winners over the Minnesota Twins.

Zack Greinke was beaten as the Arizona Diamondbacks went down to the Chicago Cubs 4-2 and the Texas Rangers claimed a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

The Oakland Athletics were too good for the Seattle Mariners 6-1.

The Miami Marlins-Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays-Baltimore Orioles matches were postponed.

Kemp had himself a day, going three-for-five at the plate with his two home runs and six RBIs.

It was expected that the showdown between Bumgarner and Kershaw was going to be good, but the former's home run off was almost an exact replica of his effort in May 2015.
