Tsurenko dumped out in Katowice, Flipkens through

Updated:

Sixth seed Lesia Tsurenko was dumped out of the Katowice Open in the first round as Stefanie Voegele caused an early shock in Poland.

After a shaky start Tsurenko's game totally deserted her as Voegele won eight games in a row to complete a comprehensive 6-4 6-0 victory on Monday.

Ninth seed Kirsten Flipkens had fewer problems as she strolled past her opening round adversary Donna Vekic 6-1 6-4, the Belgian not facing a single break point in the match.

Next up for Flipkens is Andreea Mitu after she came from a set down to beat Romina Oprandi 4-6 6-2 7-5, while Kristyna Pliskova was also made to battle for her 6-2 3-6 6-4 win over Heather Watson.

Meanwhile, Monday's final match saw Elizaveta Kulichkova beat wildcard Vera Lapko 7-6 (7-4) 6-0.
