Kirdyapkin set to be stripped of London Olympic gold

Sergey Kirdyapkin is set to be stripped of his 50 kilometre walk gold medal from the 2012 Olympic Games after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that bans were wrongly imposed on six Russian athletes.

The IAAF appealed to CAS to contest what it felt was the "selective" disqualification of results by the Russian Anti-doping Agency (RUSADA) in the cases of six athletes who were banned for doping offences.

CAS upheld the appeal from athletics' world governing body, with Kirdyapkin's results between August 20, 2009 and October 15, 2012 annulled.

The verdict is set to result in Australia's Jared Tallent taking gold after finishing behind Kirdyapkin in London four years ago.
