Jimmie Johnson secured victory at the Auto Club 400 after holding off Kevin Harvick in NASCAR's version of overtime.
Kyle Busch blew his right-front tyre, bringing out the caution flag with two laps remaining, which set up two extra laps in Fontana on Sunday.
Johnson managed to fend off the challenge of Harvick to capture his second win of the season, moving him above Dale Earnhardt into seventh on the all-time winners list in NASCAR with 77.
"To go there at the end and have good tyres on the car -- Harvick and I got by [Denny Hamlin] there at the start and I got a great run off of turn two and I thought 'I got a great shot at this thing'," Johnson told Fox Sports after the race.
"I didn't expect to have that because Harvick's been so fast. I cleared him and kind of got away so we saved out best for last that's for sure."
Hamlin claimed the third and final spot on the podium, while Joey Logano and Ricky Stenhouse Jr rounded out the top five.
Harvick remains first in the Sprint Cup Series standings on 195 points, while Johnson's victory moved him up into second on 184, 13 ahead of Carl Edwards in third.
