Sam Burgess felt "extremely lucky" to be cleared of a serious neck injury after he was stretchered off in South Sydney Rabbitohs' NRL defeat to St George Illawarra Dragons.
In just his third competitive appearance since returning to rugby league, Burgess clashed heads with Mike Cooper and was removed from the field on a stretcher after falling to the ground upon impact.
Rabbitohs head coach Michael Maguire confirmed the Englishman was set to undergo tests at hospital to discover the extent of the injury.
In a post on his official Twitter account, Burgess said he felt fortunate the scans did not appear to show any serious damage.
"Initial scans are positive. Thank you all for the messages of support - feeling extremely lucky tonight. A few days of rest now," he wrote.
The Dragons saw out an 8-6 win at the Sydney Cricket Ground, inflicting the Rabbitohs' first defeat of the season.
