Theisen-Eaton surges home to win pentathlon


Brianne Theisen-Eaton took out pentathlon gold after winning the 800 metres at the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

The Canadian ran an indoor personal best time of two minutes, 9.99 seconds to take out the crown with 4,881 points.

Ukrainian duo Anastasiya Mokhnyuk (4,847 points) and Alina Fodorova (4,770) were second and third respectively.

Mokhnyuk finished 11th in the 800m, while Fodorova was ninth, allowing Theisen-Eaton to come away as champion.

Theisen-Eaton had also impressed in the 60m hurdles and long jump earlier on Friday in Portland.

Meanwhile, American Trayvon Bromell took out the men's 60m in a time of 6.47secs, holding off Asafa Powell (6.50secs) and Ramon Gittens (6.51secs).

Also winning gold were Brittney Reese (women's long jump), Nia Ali (women's 60m hurdles) and New Zealander Tomas Walsh (men's shot put).

American Ashton Eaton leads the men's heptathlon with three events remaining.
