NRL outfit Newcastle Knights have released promising back-rower Joseph Tapine from the final year of his contract.
Tapine, 21, was banished from Knights training after revealing he had signed a pre-contract with the Canberra Raiders for four years from 2017.
His management sent in a request to the Knights to release him from the final year of his contract, which was accepted by the club on Tuesday.
"Club management has been through a process of exploring a range of options in relation to the release of Tapine," a Knights statement read.
"This process in now complete and the club can confirm Tapine has been released.
"As per NRL guidelines, the terms of the release are to remain confidential however the club is very satisfied with the outcome.
"The club wishes Tapine all the best for the future."
Tapine is expected to link up with the Raiders in the coming days.
