Andrea Iannone paid tribute to a seagull he hit in Australia last year at the first MotoGP testing session of 2016 in Sepang on Monday.
Iannone struck the bird on the second lap of the Australian MotoGP in October, eventually having to settle for third place behind Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo.
Iannone debuted a new helmet, featuring a cartoon seagull, as riders took to the track for the first official testing session of the year.
The 26-year-old tweeted: "Dedicated to my friend, 'The Australian seagull' always in my heart."
The Ducati rider was fifth fastest in Sepang, completing 49 laps with a fastest time of two minutes and 1.912 seconds.
World champion Jorge Lorenzo was fastest during the session with his time of two minutes and 0.684 seconds, giving him an advantage of more than a second over Movistar Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi (+1.033secs).
Dani Pedrosa (+1.096secs) completed the top three for Repsol Honda, with former champion Marc Marquez (+1.594secs) seventh after 50 laps.
