Hornacek fired as Suns coach after dismal run

Jeff Hornacek has been fired from his role as Phoenix Suns head coach following Sunday's loss at Dallas Mavericks, the team has announced.

The Suns, who are 14-35 in NBA this season, have lost 14 straight on the road and 19 of their last 21 games, prompting general manager Ryan McDonough to call time on Hornacek's near three-year stay in Phoenix.

No immediate replacement has been announced but Yahoo Sports reported that either Corey Gaines or Earl Watson, both assistants on Hornacek's staff, will be promoted to interim head coach.

Hornacek survived a staff shake-up last month when assistants Mike Longabardi and Jerry Sichting were fired, but the lack of improvement since signalled the end for the former Suns player.

Hornacek went 101-112 (.474) at the helm in Phoenix, who are 13th in the Western Conference.
