Broncos coach Bennett to hold England talks

Brisbane Broncos coach Wayne Bennett has held talks with the Rugby Football League (RFL) amid reports he is set to take over as England boss.

RFL chief executive Nigel Wood recently stated the governing body is assessing its options after Steve McNamara's contract expired following the series victory over New Zealand.

The experienced Bennett is said to be a leading contender to take the England coaching job and the 66-year-old has confirmed that he has been approached.

"We haven't finalised the role but I've been offered some opportunities. I have to find out how they see me involved." he told the Brisbane Courier-Mail.

"Everything is on the table. I wanted to coach Australia, but it's not available now. I wanted to make a contribution to international rugby league.

"About five years ago, the RFL first arrived at my doorstep. It is always about finding the right timing."

Former Australia coach Bennett has won seven NRL titles during an illustrious coaching career - six of those coming with the Broncos.
