Kerber lauded after Australian Open triumph


Angelique Kerber was lauded across the globe after her stunning win over Serena Williams in the Australian Open final.

The German seventh seed remarkably clinched her maiden grand slam with a 6-4 3-6 6-4 victory over Williams at Melbourne Park on Saturday.

Kerber, in her first major final, secured victory in just over two hours on Rod Laver Arena.

The plaudits came from a variety of sports starts after she became the first German since Steffi Graf in 1999 to win a slam.
