The 57th edition of the CareerBuilder Challenge gets underway on Thursday as the PGA Tour returns to the United States mainland after two weeks in Hawaii.
The PGA West Stadium Course returns as one of the three hosting courses for the first time in almost three decades as 157 players descend on La Quinta, California.
World number 10 Patrick Reed is the early favourite to take out the title, which would be his fifth Tour win after securing one in 2015.
Reed enters the tournament in good form, finishing second at the Tournament of Champions after carding 270 and finishing 22 under after four rounds.
The 25-year-old Texan won the event in 2014, when it was known as the Humana Challenge, by defeating Ryan Palmer by two strokes.
Reed has seven consecutive top-10 finishes worldwide and should prove tough to beat.
Palmer may prove the man to do what he could not in 2014 and pip Reed, having shot a combined 68 under in his previous three attempts.
How the addition of the PGA West Stadium Course will affect that remains to be seen, but this is a tournament he is clearly comfortable playing in.
Bill Haas returns as defending champion, having won by one stroke to take out his second CareerBuilder Challenge, following his victory in 2010.
His triumph six years ago was his first on Tour, making this event one of his favourites, and having pipped five golfers tied in second for top spot last year, he can expect plenty of competition this time around as well.
