Petra Kvitova insists she has overcome the stomach virus that ruined her Australian Open preparation.
The Czech avoided a repeat of her shock loss to Luksika Kumkhum in 2014 by claiming a 6-3 6-1 win over the Thai qualifier on Monday.
Kvitova had struggled with illness in the lead-up, retiring during a match in Shenzhen before withdrawing from her title defence at the Sydney International.
But the 25-year-old sixth seed said those problems were behind her after she set up a clash with Daria Gavrilova.
"I'm very pleased with how I played. It was my first match of the season so I was really glad I got through," Kvitova said.
"I had a great off-season but when I got to Shenzhen I got a stomach virus or something.
"I didn't eat very well and I lost some weight and that's why I withdrew from Sydney as well, but I'm feeling much better now."
