Danny McGuire admitted he has "big shoes to fill" after being named as Kevin Sinfield's successor as Leeds Rhinos captain.
McGuire will take over as skipper after Sinfield ended his Rhinos career with a 22-20 victory over Wigan Warriors in last year's Super League Grand Final.
Sinfield is now trying his hand at rugby union for Yorkshire Carnegie so the club have turned to McGuire to lead a Rhinos team looking to record a second successive Super League and Challenge Cup double in 2016.
The Rhinos also face NRL champions North Queensland Cowboys in the World Club Challenge at Headingley next month.
McGuire told the Rhinos' official website: "This is a massive privilege and honour for me. I have always been proud to play for my home town and it is brilliant to now be captain for the 2016 season.
"I have some big shoes to fill in following Kevin Sinfield but I am sure, with the support of my team mates, the club and our brilliant supporters we can all continue to do our city proud this year and beyond."
