Josh Hazelwood will sit out the remainder of the one-day international series against India after Australia opted to rest the paceman.
Hazlewood missed Friday's seven-run win at the Gabba and Cricket Australia has decided to extend his absence through until February's tour of New Zealand, with John Hastings retained for the remaining three ODIs.
The 25-year-old Hazlewood played the opening ODI in Perth on Tuesday, taking 1-41 as Australia won by five wickets.
Hazlewood also claimed 21 wickets in the recent Test series wins against New Zealand and West Indies.
"Josh has played all six Tests this summer and has had a high workload," said Australia coach Darren Lehmann.
"On that basis the decision has been made to give him a break to allow him to recharge both physically and mentally ahead of the tour of New Zealand.
"We regard it as sensible management of the player and it is an approach that we have adopted successfully in Australian cricket over a significant period of time, especially in the one-day format."
The third ODI takes place in Melbourne on Sunday.
