Toulon back Matt Giteau will undergo surgery to fix his troublesome groin on Monday, in a blow for the reigning three-time European champions.
Giteau took to Twitter to confirm the operation on Wednesday, with the 102-cap Australia international reportedly set to miss up to three months.
"Op on Monday... Not great news but looking forward to finally getting this groin fixed so I can be 100 per cent for @RCTofficiel," the 33-year-old wrote.
Giteau has been sidelined for Toulon's past two matches and it was initially thought the former ACT Brumbies back would miss three weeks.
Toulon must now make do without Giteau for Sunday's penultimate pool-stage European Champions Cup clash against London Wasps, who could eliminate the defending champions.
