Johnson reaches 3,000 winners landmark

Richard Johnson became only the second jockey to reach the landmark of 3,000 National Hunt winners at Ludlow on Tuesday.

Johnson rode 1-6 favourite Garde La Victoire to victory by five lengths in the Winter Season Ticket Novices Chase to achieve the feat.

The 38-year-old is well on his way to being crowed champion jockey for the first time, with victory aboard the Philip Hobbs-trained seven-year-old taking his taking for the season to 176.

AP McCoy, champion jockey 20 years in a row before retiring in 2015, is the only other jockey to rack up 3,000 National Hunt winners or more and went on to take his incredible tally to over 4,300.
