Clermont Auvergne showcased their European Champions Cup credentials with a dominant 28-10 victory over Bordeaux-Begles on Friday.
Nick Abendanon, Camille Lopez and Noa Nakaitaci crossed over for tries at Stade Chaban-Delmas as Clermont leapfrogged Ospreys atop Pool 2 courtesy of a third win in four games.
Bordeaux - bottom of the group - put the first points on the board via the boot of Lionel Beauxis but Clermont quickly asserted their dominance in the first half of the re-arranged round one fixture.
Abendanon - last season's European Player of the Year - scored the opening try of the match in the 17th minute and Morgan Parra made sure of the extras before converting a penalty 10 minutes later.
Clement Maynardier hit back for Bordeaux after crossing over just past the half-hour mark but Clermont ensured they led 17-10 at the break thanks to Lopez.
Bordeaux lost their way early in the second half after Parra converted back-to-back penalties, replacement lock Julien Le Devedec sent off in the 50th minute and it got worse moments later when Francisco Gomes Kodela received a yellow card for a shoulder charge.
And Nakaitaci rounded off the impressive away win with a try of his own 10 minutes from time as Clermont moved two points clear atop the standings.
