Chandimal to captain Sri Lanka in New Zealand T20s

Dinesh Chandimal will replace the injured Lasith Malinga as Sri Lanka captain for the Twenty20 International leg of their New Zealand tour.

Malinga was ruled out of the tour with a knee injury sustained in the series against West Indies last month, which has kept him in his native country for treatment.

As a result, Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed Chandimal, who led the country in the format until Malinga took over in 2014, as stand-in captain for the upcoming two-match series which begins in Mount Maunganui on January 7.

Malinga's place in the squad has been taken by opening batsman Danushka Gunatilleke, who is part of the current ODI squad in New Zealand.

Suranga Lakmal has also been selected in place of Kusal Perera, who, despite being named in the initial group, will not participate as he remains under suspension by the ICC.
