Nadal and Muguruza would be a great team - Martinez

Conchita Martinez, captain of Spain's Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams, would like to see Rafael Nadal and Garbine Muguruza team up at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Nadal claimed the gold medal in the men's singles at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, but did not compete in London four years later owing to injury.

The 29-year-old has spoken of his desire to compete in all possible events in Rio de Janeiro, with 2015 Wimbledon runner-up Muguruza a potential candidate in the mixed doubles.

Martinez believes such a combination would give Spain a fantastic shot at success in Brazil, but insists there is plenty of competition.

"It would be a great partnership because they are two great champions," she told Marca.

"But there are more players who would like to play in this field and the rankings and form should be taken into account.

"We have great individuals, great doubles players and the option for the mixed doubles is a total mystery.

"It should be noted the Olympic Games are an incentive for all players, in order to compete at such an event and to leave with a medal around their neck."
