Thai underdog misses black off the spot for 147

Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh missed a black off the spot to squander a rare chance to pick up his maiden 147 and a prize pot of £44,000 at the UK Championship on Tuesday.

The world number 36 - 4-1 down to 2013 champion Neil Robertson in the last 32 at the time - had the attention of York's Barbican as he closed in on a maxium break.

However, after stretching to down the pink, Un-Nooh appeared to lose his nerve as he agonisingly overcut the black onto the right-hand jaw of the pocket, halting his break at 140.

The score fell one short of the 30-year-old's previous best of 141 to rub further salt in the wound, as the financial rewards that accompany a maximum - £40,000 for a 147 and £4,000 for the highest break of the event - also fell by the wayside.

Robertson went on to win the match 6-2, incidentally registering the tournament's highest break so far along the way - an effort of 145 in the seventh frame.
