Kumkhum battles through in Taipei first round


Luksika Kumkhum sealed her place in the second round of the OEC Taipei WTA Challenger with a three-set win over wildcard Hsu Ching-wen.

Kumkhum, ranked 195 in the world, needed an hour and 39 minutes to see off home hope and world number 342 Hsu 5-7 6-2 6-2.

China's Liu Chang enjoyed more serene progress into the second round, winning her meeting with Indian Ankita Raina in straight sets.

Liu needed a tie-break to win the first set, but her quality told in the second, which she claimed comfortably to seal a 7-6 (7-2) 6-1 success.
