Khawaja suffers hamstring injury

Australia batsman Usman Khawaja will undergo a scan on Sunday after suffering a hamstring injury on day two of the second Test against New Zealand at the WACA.

The in-form Khawaja scored his second century in as many Tests on day one in Perth on Friday, but had to leave the field on Saturday after pulling up when chasing a ball to the boundary.

Khawaja recovered from knee surgery to regain his place in the Australia side and will be eager to avoid another lay-off after seemingly making the number three spot his own in the last week or so.

New Zealand trailed Australia - who won the first Test last week - by 419 runs at stumps on day two after closing on 140-2 in reply to the hosts' 559-9 declared.

The third and final Test in Adelaide starts next Friday.
