Third seed Nao Hibino sealed a place in the semi-finals of the Hua Hin Championships on Friday and in doing so ended Luksika Kumkhum's hopes of winning the event on home soil.
Hibino, the highest-ranked player remaining in the tournament, had too much quality for Kumkhum, winning 6-4 6-3 courtesy of six breaks of serve.
Kumkhum claimed four breaks of her own, but was not as effective on serve and racked up eight double faults as she missed out on a place in the last four.
Hibino will take on Naomi Osaka in an all-Japanese semi-final after she fought back to beat Liu Fangzhou 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 6-3.
Fourth seed Yaroslava Shvedova sealed her place in the last four by seeing off Duan Ying-ying 6-2 6-4.
Shvedova sent down seven aces and broke four times to set up an encounter with Wang Qiang, who was a 6-3 6-2 winner against Hsieh Su-wei.
