Caroline Garcia overcame a first-set scare to defeat Donna Vekic 3-6 6-1 6-1 and reach the semi-finals of the Open de Limoges on Friday.
Frenchwoman Garcia is ranked some 70 places above Vekic in the world rankings, but was broken on three occasions during an error-strewn opening set.
However, Garcia - who had lost both her previous encounters with Vekic - raced through the following two sets in just 48 minutes to book her place in the semis.
Veteran Francesca Schiavone, the 2010 French Open champion, also made it into the last four. The Italian was beating Margarita Gasparyan 7-6 (7-5) before the sixth seed retired from the contest after the first set.
Eighth seed Anna-Lena Friedsam was sent crashing out by Katerina Siniakova, who lasted the distance in a 7-5 2-6 6-3 win, while Louisa Chirico was a 7-5 6-2 victor over qualifier Kateryna Kozlova.
