Ten things that could happen if Trump is impeached
Nearly 6 in 10 American voters believe President Trump should either be impeached and removed from office or formally censured according to a poll conducted in December 2018.
In the wake of ongoing investigations surrounding Trump, a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll asked nearly 1,500 voters what actions if any should be taken against the commander in chief.
While a majority says some action should be taken against the president, there is a divide on how far that action should go. Thirty-nine percent of those polled said Trump should be impeached and removed from office, while 20 percent believe that the president should be formally censured by Congress.
But what would happen if Congress decided to impeach the president and the Senate convicted him? Well, characteristically Trump has not been shy in trying to threaten Congress from thinking of removing him from office.
Some of the predictions go from odd to the outlandish. The president has suggested that it would lead to a stock market crash, and some of his supporters have even predicted civil war. But while these outcomes are unlikely - one sure fact is Americans would end up with President Pence. While for some that would be a relief, others have pointed out that Mike Pence's views on abortion and gay rights are far to the right.
With the Democrats promising investigations into the president and the Mueller investigation yet to conclude, many Americans have yet to ponder the real political consequences of the Trump presidency.
