Police probe whether quadruple stabbing is linked to north London shooting

Detectives are probing whether a quadruple stabbing that left four men in hospital in north London is linked to a shooting nearby.

The Metropolitan Police said it was called to reports of a fight at Fraser Road, Edmonton, shortly before 6pm on Sunday.

Officers and the paramedics found four men, all in their 20s, with stab wounds at the scene.

Three of the men remained in hospital on Monday morning, although their condition was not disclosed.

The stabbings came around 24 hours after a boy and two men suffered injuries when a shotgun was fired at a minicab in an incident less than a mile away.

“It is a line of inquiry as to whether they are linked,” a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

The Met said it was called to Gordon Road, Enfield, to reports of shots fired at around 6pm on Saturday.

At the scene, a 16-year-old boy and two 22-year-old men were found with injuries.

Police believe the group were in the mini-cab when a second vehicle pulled alongside the car while it was stationary.

“At least two men got out and approached the victims. One was armed with a shotgun. The shotgun was fired twice into the rear of the vehicle,” the Met said.

The men escaped life-threatening injuries, although one of the passengers’ injuries are thought to be “potentially life-changing”.

The minicab’s driver was not injured.

No arrests have been made over the incidents and police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

They occurred as London experiences a grim spate of bloodshed, with the number of homicides recently surpassing that seen in the whole of 2017.

On Friday afternoon, a 75-year-old woman, named by locals as Maureen Watkins, was found fatally stabbed at her home in Peckham, south London.

A grim spate of bloodshed in the capital, including the week from October 31 when there were five stab murders, has brought the total to 120.

According to Home Office figures, there were 118 in London in 2017, excluding the 13 victims of the terrorist attacks at Westminster Bridge, London Bridge and Finsbury Park.

On Monday, mayor of London Sadiq Khan is expected to announce a large amount of funding for youth projects across the capital in an effort to steer vulnerable youngsters away from crime.
