Donald Trump's Twitter shut down for 11 minutes

Updated

US President Donald Trump's Twitter account vanished briefly on Thursday night.

A departing Twitter employee made their last day go with a bang by deactivating POTUS's @realdonaldtrump account, before it was restored 11 minutes later.

In a statement, Twitter said: "Through our investigation we have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee's last day. We are conducting a full internal review."

Trump's Twitter account is frequently in the news, with the President often courting controversy with his comments on the micro-blogging service.

Many of his pre-presidency tweets come back to haunt him as he regularly contradicts himself when criticising previous presidents and government officials.

Twitter defended allowing Trump to appear to threaten North Korea with total destruction in September, claiming it was 'newsworthy'.
