Jacinda Ardern is New Zealand's latest Prime Minister

Updated

Jacinda Ardern is to be the New Zealand Prime Minister, the country's third female to lead.

The 37-year-old was chosen after the anti-immigration NZ First party threw their support behind Ardern's Labour Party in forming a coalition government.

The announcement came after September's election returned a hung parliament.

Ardern said on Thursday it was "an absolute honour and a privilege" to become PM.
